Features
Equipped with Database Backup Modules
Our WAN backup service comes with specialised backup modules for all commonly used databases, ensuring complete protection of critical data. These modules include:
- Microsoft Exchange Server
- Microsoft Exchange Server Brick-Level Backup
- Microsoft SQL Server
- Oracle Database
- MySQL Server
- Lotus Domino Server
Brick-Level Backup and Restore for Microsoft Exchange Server
Microsoft Exchange is one of the most popular email servers used by businesses of all sizes. Our built-in Microsoft Exchange Backup Module allows you to do brick-level backup and restore for Microsoft Exchange Server, including individual emails, calendars, and contact lists, etc. When data loss occurs, users can restore individual emails, calendars and contact lists within a very short period of time, without the need to restore the full Exchange's information store. This capability makes our software an ideal backup tool for Microsoft Exchange Server.
Compatible with All Common Operating System
Users no longer need to worry about the compatibility of backup software and operating platforms. Our software can be run on all common platforms, including Windows, Linux, Mac, NetWare, UNIX and all other platforms that support Java.
Microsoft Windows System Backup and Restore (Bare-Metal Recovery)
In the case of total-loss, a backed up image containing the complete operating system and installed applications with the latest configurations and settings, along with all data, can be restored easily to a computer, even of completely different hardware, without running into the Windows blue screen.
Continuous Data Protection
Our WAN backup software comes with advanced Continuous Data Protection (CDP) technology which can be set to capture every version of a file that has been saved to your hard drive. With CDP, even if your hard drive crashes completely without running a backup manually yourself, the saved copy of your working files will still be intact on the backup server. It provides a highly dependable means of real-time, continuous data protection for file servers, desktops, and laptops effortlessly and transparently, without any human intervention.
256-Bit Top Security Encryption
Our WAN backup software secures all your data in encrypted format and sends it through a SSL channel. All data will be compressed and encrypted with 256-bit encryption with an encrypting key selected by the user on the client-side before being uploaded and stored on our servers. The encrypting key will never be uploaded to the backup server during backup. Uploading of the backup data can be done by a secure SSL channel to further increase security. Decryption, on the other hand, is only possible with user's encrypting key. This whole mechanism provides exceptional security to the backed up data.
Seed-Load Utility and In-File Delta Enable Fast Backup
Our seed load and in-file delta incremental technologies enable backup of a large volume of data to be completed in a very short period of time. The seed load feature allows backup of a large volume of data to a local hard drive. With our proprietary in-file delta technology, the original file is required to be backed up once only, i.e. in the first backup session. Subsequently, only the changes within the file made since the previous backup are necessary to be backed up.
For example, for a file that is as large as 500GB, you can simply seed load the full backup to a removable local hard drive and then deliver the seed loaded data in the removable hard drive to the backup server. Usually the changes made within the 500GB file, normally less than 1% (i.e. 5GB of the original file size), are required to be backed up again, this amount of data can be backed up easily to the server via the Internet or Intranet in one night. As a result, instead of having to back up 500GB everyday, you just need to back up 5GB everyday to keep the file up-to-date on the backup server.
Support Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express
Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express are the two most popular email readers used by businesses and home users. Equipped with the capability for storing large amounts of data efficiently, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express are now being used by many to store large amounts of important data in addition to being merely a communication tool.
However, backing up data stored in these two email readers is a headache to most users, as few users know where to find the related files storing the personal information (e.g. “.pst”, “.dbx”) and address book (“.wab”). With our hosted backup software, users can back up this data easily by simply checking a single checkbox. Backing up of Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Outlook Express has never been easier
Support Backup of Opened Files in Windows
Our WAN backup software integrates with Microsoft's latest Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) framework which supports the backup of files being opened without requiring additional applications or plug-ins.
Why is hosted backup important?
Data Loss Impacts Your Business
- Your business data goes hand-in-hand with your business operation. The loss of such data, or even their temporary inaccessibility, may threaten your hard-earned competitive position.
- Companies without proactive backup and recovery policies are likely to be out of business within 2 years of a major disaster1.
- Loss of business data may ruin your company’s reputation, and may lead to expensive litigation.
- Worst of all, it interrupts your business continuity.

Conventional Approaches to Backup Are Not Good Enough
Poor, unstructured, conventional backup methodologies (such as tape, CD Rom, and external hard drive etc.) are no longer effective enough:
- High failure rates during data restoration
- Difficulty in detecting problems of backup before performing restoration
- Slow read/write speed
- High maintenance cost
- Expensive off-site storage of tape library
- Reduced flexibility for backup caused by fixed capacity per backup media
- Increased likelihood of occurrence of negligence-induced problems (e.g. lost or misplaced data)

How it works

- Data from your computers and/or servers is sent at a scheduled time to Wanstor's Hosted Backup Box. Your data is stored here locally, and also transmitted to our datacentre
- Your data gets sent across a SSL channel, encrypted by 128-bit encryption, to our datacentres where it is stored safely and securely on our servers
- Should the worst happen and you suffer data loss, damage or theft, your data is easily retrievable and the backup can be returned to you within a short period of time - this is available locally, and, should you need it, available from our datacentres
- Our hosted backup service provides you with a simple, secure and automatic method of safeguarding your data, helping you to achieve peace of mind
